Mission

Tupendane group is a legal registered community based organization (CBO) with registration number MCC/CD/CBO/322. The group began 20/11/2011 under 25 active members 22 women and 3 men. It aimed at bringing together vulnerable women to struggle as a team towards economic empowerment.

Tupendane is Swahili name means loving each other. The group focusing at promoting love as a key point towards success, this stimulates the concept of self help and impacting these qualities to persist:-
  1. Unity, sense of equality & solidarity
  2. Women become free and share their concerns 
  3. The self help groups encourage the women to feel capable, enhance their personalities and unfold their potentials e.g becoming leaders in the groups and in the society as whole. 
  4. The groups offer a supportive environment for women to exercise their creativity and innovative ideas as well as to learn being self reliant.
  5. The self-help groups are therapeutic by nature in which women find a relief of their difficulties e.g.  Domestic violence, economic hardship and inferiority complex.
  6. The self-help groups are instrumental for women emancipation against oppression, and vital for learning social life skills.

Purpose: The group was formed to empower members economically through the culture of lending and savings in which members save together by buying shares and take small loans from those savings. The activities of lending and savings run in cycle of about one year, after which the accumulated savings and profit are shared out among the members according to the amount they have saved. 

Aims:
  • To improve members economic situation.
  • To ensure members access to loan with small interest charges.
  • To support members’ social welfare through social fund e.g. sickness, death and educational matters.  
  • Facilitate and emphasize culture of savings
  • To initiate more self help groups and community project

Vision:
 The group is focused to become microfinance institution so that it can meet other vulnerable / disadvantaged people in the society and empower them in all aspects.
Apart from proving loans, the group will involve with other social responsibilities like:-
  • To take part in shaping vulnerable children future by supporting in education and food  
  • To support and empower vulnerable families for aim of preventing children to end up in street
  • To initiate more self help groups and community project

Mission:
  • To empower members who are vulnerable women economically and community at large

How the group started to save
The group started by six members by mobilizing them following training on lending and savings. After training members get inspired to start the cycle. On 20/11/2012 fifty shares were bought equal to fifty thousands (Tsh 50,000), social fund Tsh 5,500 and 43,500 Tsh were given out as loan to three members. The Six members become a catalyst to other members to join the group after realizing the important of savings then agreed on the following as a group
  1. To formulate group constitution
  2. A member is free to save one to five shares
  3. One value of share stand Tsh 1,000
  4. One year cycle, the activities of lending and savings

Ways of giving loans
  1. Members will access loan based on her saving shares
  2. Completely filled loan form as instruction given
